Improving Shoulder Function and Performance with Pilates-A Movement Science Approach

This dynamic workshop features the Monarch Method™, an integrative approach that draws from the leading philosophies in movement science and manual therapy.  Demonstrations and hands on activities will enhance your understanding of the anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder complex and its relationship to the neck, trunk and pelvis. A systematic postural and movement screen will help you recognize key muscle imbalances that can lead to painful conditions such as rotator cuff syndrome.  We will explore principles and exercises from the world of movement science and will apply them to Pilates Mat and equipment programming to improve the mobility, stability, strength and functional performance of the shoulder complex.

Audience:

This workshop is best for rehabilitation, wellness and fitness professionals who are actively seeking to enhance their practice by applying advanced observation and movement analysis skills to an integrative exercise model that trains ideal motion and optimizes performance.

Pilates Progressions for Thriving: Optimizing Breast Cancer Recovery

Your client was diagnosed with breast cancer and has/is undergone(ing) the recommended treatments, now what do you do? This workshop will present the impact of cancer diagnosis and treatments on your client’s functional mobility and quality of life while revealing the benefits of exercise in cancer recovery. Participants will learn research based assessment tools and Pilates mat/apparatus exercise progressions for safe and effective programing. You will discover the integral role of the Pilates Teacher in the breast cancer prevention to survivorship continuum and how to create a niche practice that assists survivors in their “return to life.”

Human Gait: The Essentials – Beginner

Have you wanted to know more about the mechanisms behind the human gait (walking)? This workshop will introduce you to the essential terminology, phases, muscle firing patterns and joint interactions of the lower extremities and pelvis during the human gait cycle. A basic observational tool will be used to help you screen for potential deviations. Using a progressive Pilates mat series you will learn basic exercises that will begin to harness the postural control required for normal gait.

Gait in Chains – Advanced Beginner – Intermediate

This workshop is designed for practitioners who have a basic understanding of the components of the gait cycle. You will be introduced to common gait deviations and will begin to hone your observational skills to recognize them. Using a functional anatomy model, we will connect the biomechanical chains of the extremities with spine and nervous system to help you gain an understanding of how these connections produce the automatic movement patterns during gait. Participants will learn progressive mat and apparatus exercises that connect the chains to improve postural control and reduce gait deviations.

Special Conditions for Pilates Practitioners

This introductory workshop will tap in to the world of pathology through an interactive approach, paying specific attention to the common conditions you may encounter as a Pilates Instructor. Participants will understand which exercises to avoid/ modify for a given diagnosis and approaches that will safely challenge your client.
